As a marketer, I get tons of email everyday… mostly from other marketers promoting their products/services or someone else’s for commissions. I must admit however, during the embryo stages of internet marketing my biggest fear would be succumbing to “Shiny Object Syndrome” – buying product after product that has a good sales page and guarantees success online.
Marketers with deep pockets sometime pay large sums of money to have their sales pages trigger emotions that have you believe you must buy their product to gain an unfair advantage online.
To overcome shiny object syndrome is to take massive action – identify your weaknesses and utilize due-diligence to find comparable product to help strengthen them. This approach will help you achieve your goals at lot sooner and save you a ton of money in the process.
Why Take Action
There are a plethora of products and services on the market that can help launch a business or take it to the next level. The problem lies when trying to identify with every product without ever getting your feet wet; which is partly why so many people fail online – too busy shopping for shiny objects and not taking action with the knowledge already sustained.
I discovered a long time ago that trial and error is an integral part of running a successful business. In other words, you can continue to purchase every shiny object that tickles your fancy; but it is imperative to take action and utilize the knowledge you uncover – otherwise you will continue to stay stagnant and ultimately fail.
Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained
One of the biggest impediments with taking initiative to start your own business besides capital is FEAR!! According to the dictionary, “fear” itself simply means: An unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. To overcome fear is to take massive action which ultimately will get you one more step closer towards achieving your goals.
Sure we have to continue to test and invest into tools and other resources that will help us become more efficient, but not at the expense of moving forward. Michael Jordan once said, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.”

Hi Mark,
You share a great strategy on over coming the shiny object syndrome that so many of us fall for. Buyers remorse is not recommended and yes take the right action is the way.
Good luck on your journey.
Thanks Gloria- Shiny object syndrome is something I’m sure a lot of us can relate to… it’s all about putting that investment into good use!
Hey Mark
Good article. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
If you don’t take action, the world passes you by and you accomplish nothing.
Hey Darrel-
It is so easy to caught up in new launches from other marketers… I don’t discourage purchasing other products; however the objective should be to learn and then apply what you learned.
Thanks
Hi Mark,
I have suffered from shiny object syndrome for some years in the past, and I totally agree that taken action for my own business helps.
When inexperienced, a big part of it is not knowing which of the many offers are really going to help you.
I’ve found self commitment to actually using what I buy before buying something else is my way of taking action.

Hi Peter-
I think that’s where many marketers get caught up… moving on to the next product before completely exhausting their previous purchase. Unless of the course their previous purchase was a bunch of garbage. Glad to see that you’re committed.
Thanks
